Alcorn State Men’s Basketball Team Holding Their Own in the SWAC

The Alcorn State Braves men’s basketball team is showing resilience and determination as they navigate the competitive landscape of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). With a 5-4 record, they’ve managed to hold their own, ranking in the top 10 of the SWAC standings. This position places them as one of the stronger teams in the conference, though not quite at the top. That honor currently goes to Jackson State University, the only HBCU in Mississippi with a higher ranking.

Their games in the conference have been intense, though often lower-scoring affairs. The team is averaging around 65 points per game in conference play, which speaks to the defensive and strategic nature of their matchups. Despite this, they’ve found ways to remain competitive, and have even pulled off some notable wins.

One of the more heartbreaking moments of their season came in a loss to Florida A&M, where they narrowly fell by just one point, 64-65. Close losses like this highlight the team’s potential and their ability to compete at a high level, even when the margin is thin.

To be candid, Alcorn State got off to a rough start this season. But the team’s resilience and ability to bounce back have been key. With each game, they continue to find their rhythm and build confidence, proving that they are capable of competing with some of the best teams in the SWAC.

As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how the Braves continue to develop. With the right mix of experience and emerging talent, they could very well make a deeper push into the conference standings.
