Slept On: Belhaven Wins First CCS Men’s Soccer Championship in Program History
The Belhaven men’s soccer team won their first ever Collegiate Conference of the South Championship this past Saturday after a stunning season.
The Blazers were able to go 12-3-4 for their overall record and 4-1-1 in conference play. This team had an aggressive offense, scoring over five goals in at least three games. Defensively, this team was able to shut out their opponents seven times. Statistically, this means if you were set to play the Blazers, you have an almost 40 percent chance of not putting a single goal in the back of the net.
What made this win particularly meaningful was that it was a rematch of the 2023 CCS Final. In 2023, Belhaven and Covenant put on a battling display, but Belhaven fell short. This year, the team knew things had to go differently. And so it did! The Belhaven men shut out their opponent, leaving them with a scoreboard that glistened in their favor, reading 2-0.
This win marks Belhaven’s first conference championship in the program’s NCAA era and first in the Collegiate Conference of the South. This is a historic moment for the program, one which also opens the doors for the Blazers for opportunities in the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer tournament.
Now, the team has earned the CCS’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will find out their first round opponent during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, November 11th at 12:30 PM. The opening round of the NCAA Tournament will begin on Saturday, November 16th. To read more: https://blazers.belhaven.edu/sports/mens-soccer/archives
