Delta State’s Keithean Brooks Reached 1,000 Points
Thursday night, the Delta State University Men’s Basketball team (15-11, 11-9) earned multiple accolades in their 74-67 victory over Lee University (10-13, 6-13 GSC) at Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Senior guard Keithean Brooks reached the 1,000-point milestone with a layup off a turnover at the 5:50 mark of the second half. Brooks finished the game with 10 points. Delta State secured a spot in the Truist GSC Championship Tournament with the win.
Lee took an early lead, going up 16-8 with 12 minutes left in the first half. Despite trailing 26-20 with five minutes remaining, Delta State closed the half with a 15-2 run, fueled by a combined 12 points from Kolby Horace and Bryce Clayton. Horace ended the night with 22 points and a career-high six steals.
The second half saw five ties and four lead changes. However, Delta State surged with a 14-2 run, spearheaded by senior point guard Chris Terrell. Terrell led all scorers with 29 points, including 22 in the second half. He is now just 15 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points as a Statesman. Terrell also contributed six steals, further adding to his nation-leading total.
The Statesmen dominated defense, forcing 18 turnovers while committing only four of their own.
Delta State returns to action on Saturday when they host Trevecca Nazarene University, who defeated Mississippi College 85-74 earlier in the evening. The game will tip off at approximately 4:00 p.m. (CDT).
