Gulf Coast Dominates Play-In Game to Advance

Mississippi Gulf Coast’s Softball team made quick work of East Mississippi to punch its ticket into the four team NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament with an 8-0 run rule victory.

The Bulldogs took down 10th-seeded EMCC in dominant fashion. Karley Rouse only gave up a hit to the first batter she pitched against. MGCCC notched 12 total hits in the game, highlighted by Abby Lindsey’s three-run homer and game-ending RBI single.

“Like a breath of fresh air,” Lindsey said. “I’d kinda been in a drought. I think Meridian was my last one. It was rewarding. I was happy and my teammates were happy, too.”

Brooklyn Mitchell also added three hits and two runs in the contest. Savannah Wilbanks and Natalie Jones both also had two-out RBI singles in the third inning. Head Coach David Kuhn was was very satisfied today with his team’s performance.

“That was huge because without that, we don’t score those two runs and it’s a whole different ball game,” coach noted. “Abby Lindsey comes through, kicks the door down twice, and Karley threw great.”

Rouse improved to 16-6 with her performance on the mound today, and struck out four batters in 57 pitches.

The Bulldogs (35-17) will face the second seed Jones (43-8) in the first game on Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m. in Ellisville. The teams are 1-1 against each other so far this year, and it looks to be a big and important challenge for Gulf Coast.
