ICYMI: Jackson State’s Women’s Bowling Team
Jackson State’s women’s bowling team may fly under the radar, but it holds a unique place in Tiger athletics as JSU’s only women’s-only sport.
The program was established in 2014 and has been led by Dr. Michael L. Boykins since its inception, providing rare continuity for a collegiate sport. Bowling is one of JSU’s winter sports, with the Tigers competing from October through March.
While the regular season spans the autumnal months, the new year brings tournament play. The Tigers compete in events such as the SWAC West Roundup, Southern Queens, and multiple invitationals that extend through the spring semester.
In fall 2025, Jackson State played 51 matches, finishing 22–29 overall. The program has shown conference success in previous seasons, achieving a 19–9 conference record in the 2024-2025 season, a sign that the Tigers aren’t out of the competition yet.
The bowling league’s roster hints at the budding interest in women’s bowling, drawing in student athletes from Mississippi and around the country. JSU’s bowling team may not immediately jump to mind when you think of Tiger athletics, but Jackson State’s women’s bowling team is commanding their own lane.
