Mississippi State’s Tanner Allen Drafted by Banana Ball’s Loco Beach Coconuts
Former Mississippi State baseball star Tanner Allen has joined the barnstorming exhibition Banana Ball league after being selected by the Loco Beach Coconuts during the 2025 Banana Ball Championship League (BBCL) Draft.
Allen is one of the most accomplished baseball players in Bulldog history. He started all 68 games as a true freshman, earned Freshman All-America and SEC All-Freshman honors, and went on to an historic senior season in 2021. That year, he hit .383 with 100 hits, 72 runs and 66 RBIs, earning SEC Player of the Year and ABCA National Player of the Year honors all while helping power Mississippi State on its College World Series run.
Banana Ball, for those unfamiliar, is a high-energy, fan-first version of baseball popularized by the Savannah Bananas. It features a two-hour time limit, no walks, no bunting, innings scored as points, and even outs recorded when a fan catches a foul ball. The Loco Beach Coconuts are one of the league’s newest expansion teams, with national tour stops scheduled for the 2026 season.
Allen was selected as the first pick of round 2, bolstering the Coconuts exciting roster.
