Ole Miss Football 2025: The Road to the Playoff

Head Coach Lane Kiffin has brought winning culture back to Oxford, Mississippi in his five years with the Rebels. In his five seasons, Ole Miss has accumulated a 44-18 overall record and a 25-16 SEC mark in the most competitive conference in the country.

This past season in 2024, the College Football 12-Team Playoff was introduced by the NCAA, and the fight for the postseason became even more intense. The Rebs fought hard during the regular season and posted a 9-3 record, but fell just short of the Playoff. They would play in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl and finish their season with a dominant 52-20 win over Duke to finish with 10+ wins for the third time in four seasons.

With the 2025 College Football season around the corner, Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss will look to finally break through and reach the College Football Playoff and play for a national championship. They will be led at quarterback by Austin Simmons, who enters his redshirt sophomore season. In 2024 as a redshirt freshman, Simmons gained valuable experience behind now NFL quarterback Jaxson Dart. Simmons appeared in nine games and went 19-32 on pass attempts for 282 yards and two touchdowns.

So, how will the schedule play out for the Rebels? In week one, the Rebs open up at home on August 30 against Georgia State, a game Ole Miss should win comfortably. Week two will see them travel for their first road game and SEC opener in Lexington against Kentucky. Last season, Ole Miss dropped a huge upset to the Wildcats in Oxford, 20-17. the Rebels will look to bounce back and get revenge to build momentum at the start of conference play.

The Rebs will travel back home to begin a four-game home stand against Arkansas, Tulane, LSU, and then Washington State after a bye week. The Rebels will be facing quality non-conference opponents in between their SEC match ups in this period.

After the four game home stand, Ole Miss will play two road games in Athens versus Georgia and then in Norman versus second-year SEC member Oklahoma. The Rebels pulled off a monumental home upset over Georgia last season and will look to defeat the Dawgs for a second consecutive year.

Afterwards, the last four games of the season will take place in November, with the first three contests in Oxford. The Rebels will face LaNorris Sellers and South Carolina, a team that will be scary in 2025. They will then follow up with the Citadel before hosting Florida on Senior Day, November 15.

Ole Miss will be given a bye week before traveling south to Starkville for the Egg Bowl against arch-rival Mississippi State. The Rebels have claimed the last two Egg Bowls as well as the last two on the road. They currently lead the all-time series, 66-46-6.

Despite Ole Miss facing a very difficult 2025 schedule, they are one of the teams that stack up enough talent to beat anyone in the country. As Lane Kiffin enters his sixth season in Oxford, the Rebels are looking to reach the College Football Playoff and make a huge statement. The fans have sold out season tickets and have a lot to look forward to!
