Ole Miss Sets Program Record with 29 Run Win
The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team made history Tuesday night at Swayze Field, delivering a jaw-dropping 29-1 blowout victory over Alcorn State. Not only did the Rebels dominate every facet of the game, but they also set a new program record for the most runs scored in a single contest — an offensive explosion that electrified the home crowd and sent a strong message to the rest of college baseball.
The Rebels, now ranked No. 6 in the latest NCAA poll, improved their season record to an impressive 27-5. The win continues their hot streak as one of the most feared offensive units in the country, with Tuesday’s performance serving as both a statement and a celebration of just how dangerous this lineup can be.
From the first pitch, Ole Miss wasted no time putting pressure on Alcorn State’s pitching staff. The Rebels erupted for 11 runs in the first two innings, and the hits just kept coming. The team tallied 25 hits in total, including six home runs, four doubles, and a triple, with nearly every starter recording at least one hit or RBI.
Freshman phenom Jake Harris led the way with a monster night at the plate, going 5-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Not far behind him, veteran slugger Trey McDaniel added a grand slam and drove in five runs, while Caleb Thomas reached base six times and crossed the plate four times.
“This team is built to hit, and tonight we showed what we’re capable of when everything clicks,” said head coach Mike Bianco. “Records are great, but the focus is always on getting better every day. Still, I’m incredibly proud of the guys for how they came out and competed from pitch one.”
While the offense made headlines, the pitching staff quietly did their job with clinical efficiency. Starter Logan Buchanan tossed five innings of one-hit ball, striking out eight while walking none. The bullpen kept the pressure on, combining for four innings of shutout relief while giving up just two hits. The lone Alcorn State run came on a solo homer in the sixth, a rare blemish on an otherwise perfect night for the Rebels.
The win helped solidify Ole Miss’s position as one of the top teams in the country, moving them up to No. 6 in the latest NCAA poll. With SEC play heating up and postseason implications looming, this team is peaking at just the right time.
