As the 2024 season unfolds in women’s junior college basketball, only three Mississippi teams are standing tall with perfect records: Southwest Mississippi, Mississippi Delta, and Pearl River. All three programs have been dominating their opponents, and now, the fight continues to remain on top as the season progresses.
Southwest Mississippi:
The Bears have been a powerhouse in the 2024 season. Standing on a 9-0 record, the Lady Bears have shown consistency and determination. Facing off against opponents from multiple conferences, their success can be attributed to a solid defense that shuts down opposing offenses, combined with a potent scoring attack led by key players who have stepped up in critical moments.
The Lady Bears’ have had both close games and blowouts. Their biggest win margin was against Southern-Shreveport, where they pulled away with a 32-point win (70-38). Their closest game was two games prior, where they defeated Panola College by a mere 3 points (57-54).
Mississippi Delta:
Mississippi Delta Community College is another team that has stunned the women’s junior college basketball scene. The Lady Trojans have built a reputation for an aggressive offense, which has given them a considerable edge over their competition. They currently boast an 8-0 undefeated record.
Mississippi Delta’s record does not show many close games, with the closest being an eight-point game against Northwest Mississippi Community College. With many high-scoring games, their largest win was by 38 points. In this matchup, they downed Phillips Community College – UA, 72-34.
Pearl River:
Pearl River Community College is sitting on a 10-0 record, making them another team that has turned heads this season. Pearl River’s strength lies in both their offense and defense. They have multiple 90+ point games and one 100+ point game, which highlights the team’s offensive ability. In these games, they are also able to hold their opponents to under 30 points.
The team’s first game set the tone for the rest of their season, with a final score of 94-25 against Enterprise State Community College. Both the offensive and defensive domination in both scoring and holding their opponent to a low score can be seen again and again for Pearl River’s women’s team.
