Pearl River Adds Top-Rated Quarterback in Country to Roster

Preparing for the 2025 season, the Pearl River football team has bolstered its 2025 roster by adding quarterback Reese Mooney, a transfer from Louisiana Monroe. Mooney, also part of the Pearl River baseball team, brings significant experience and talent.

“We are extremely excited about the addition of Reese to our team. He was one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the country out of high school,” head coach Seth Smith said. “He is an extremely talented athlete, playing both baseball and football here. He has great speed and size with an elite arm. By adding him to our quarterback room with the guys we have returning, we feel great about the position in 2025.”

In high school, Mooney was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN. By the time he graduated from Denham Springs, he had received 34 scholarship offers from top programs such as Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida International, Georgia Tech, Houston, Illinois, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, Miami, Nebraska, Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Temple, Toledo, and Vanderbilt, among others.

During his senior year, Mooney threw for 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named to the Red Stick Bowl, as well as All-District and All-Parish honors. He initially signed with Liberty, where he redshirted as a freshman, before transferring to Louisiana-Monroe for the 2024 season. In January 2025, he transitioned to Pearl River as a two-sport athlete. His ties to baseball and statistics show he has quite the arm, one which Pearl River is excited to get to use!

The Wildcats went 4-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play last football season.
