Pearl River is Stand Out MACCC Team

Pearl River’s men’s basketball team is turning heads in their MACCC this season, and it is easy to see why. At 6-0 in conference play and 17-3 overall, the Wildcats are undefeated in their league and proving themselves as an absolute powerhouse on both ends of the floor.

Pearl River is making a statement. Their ability to pile on the points while simultaneously locking down their opponents has been a staple of their play. This perfect balance between offense and defense has earned them the No. 1 spot in the MACCC rankings. As evidenced by their impressive stats, this combination of high-powered offense and suffocating defense sets them apart from the rest of the league.

In their season-opening game against Baton Rouge Basketball Post-Graduate Academy, the Wildcats made an immediate statement with a 95-47 win. That 48-point victory was just the beginning of what has been a dominant campaign. With numerous high-scoring games, including a massive 120-69 victory over Community Christian College (La.), Pearl River is showing that they are capable of putting up points in bunches while still holding their opponents to low totals.

Despite their perfect conference record, one of the Wildcats’ losses came at the hands of another MACCC powerhouse, Holmes Community College. In a tightly contested battle, Pearl River fell 60-62 to Holmes, with the game being decided by just one bucket. That loss, though disappointing, was a reminder of how competitive the league is. It also showed that Pearl River is capable of going toe-to-toe with the best, as Holmes (currently No. 2 in the conference with a 5-1 record) has also been dominating opponents this season.

What is next for the Wildcats? They are set to play their next conference game on Monday, February 3rd against Northwest Mississippi Community College.
