Pearl River Launches First-Ever Golf Team
Pearl River Community College is excited to announce the formation of its first women’s golf team, a groundbreaking addition to the institution’s athletic offerings. This development not only reflects the college’s commitment to gender equity in sports but also promises to enhance opportunities for female students to shine on the golf course.
The decision to establish a women’s golf team follows a growing interest among students and an increasing demand for diverse athletic programs. College officials are enthusiastic about providing a platform for women to compete at a high level and represent the college in regional and national tournaments. They will make history this Monday and Tuesday with their first-ever women’s golf team hitting the links alongside three other community colleges in Mississippi (East Mississippi and Northwest).
“It’s very exciting to be one of the pioneers of women’s golf in the state of Mississippi,” head coach Coby Scarborough said. “This year will be interesting because we aren’t sure what to expect. We put together tryouts and found six great golfers who wanted to be part of PRCC’s first women’s team. I want these ladies to go out, play hard and try to have a solid showing.”
Head coach Scarborough expects Maya Morelos, who was previously at Grambling State, to be one of the team’s leaders.
