Perfect Harmony? Jones College’s Volleyball Star Returns for 2025 Season
The Jones College Bobcats are chasing another successful volleyball season. Head coach John Dussouy has every reason to expect another string of victories: During their inaugural 2024 season, Jones College won the Region 23 volleyball championship.
One of Dussouy’s lynchpins is outside hitter Harmony Jackson. Jackson quickly proved herself as a freshman player, shedding any doubt cast on her because of her age and relative experience level. A graduate of Lafayette High School (where she led her high school team to a state championship), Jackson is a home-grown Mississippi athlete. Originally from Oxford, Mississippi, she chose to continue her athletic career just a few hours south.
As she transitioned from high school to college, Jackson didn’t lose any of the momentum she had built at Lafayette. In fact, Jackson started in every match—all 36—during the Bobcats’ winning season. She ranked 14th overall in Division II women’s volleyball in kills, clocking in at a stunning 474 kills. It’s no surprise, then, that Jackson was named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American last year. She is the school’s first-ever NJCAA All-American.
From a volleyball perspective, Harmony Jackson had just about as perfect a freshman season as possible. But, of course, Jackson didn’t achieve all of this alone. Dussouy credits team chemistry, player buy-in, and a fun atmosphere for the Bobcats’ 2024 success. He’s hoping to bring the same level of sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill to this season.
Eight players are returning: Mamie Fromdahl (Mobile, Ala.), Sara Akins (Lafayette), LeAnn Lambert (East Central), Hanna James (Sumrall), Adelaide Egner (Center Hill), Hailey Duque (West Lauderdale), Alanah Fitch (Raceland, La.) and Harmony Jackson (Lafayette) are back from last year. Chelsea Daffin (Mobile, Ala.) is a sophomore transfer from the University of New Orleans. Fromdahl also had a stunning inaugural season, named Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Athletics (MACCC) Player of the Year.
Despite a strong roster and previous successes, Dussouy has stated that he expects harder-won victories this year: “This year Jones volleyball will have a target on their back due to last year’s success. If this team can be mentally prepared for the season, they could do what no team has ever done and make it to the NJCAA tournament.”
As volleyball continues to expand in Mississippi, both within junior colleges and throughout the state as a whole, competition will likely become fiercer. Jackson, Dussouy, and Assistant Coach Addie Satcher are not planning on backing down.
“A lot of people have made the comment that after the success of 2024 the expectations will be
high for 2025,” Dussuoy said. “My response is always the same, ‘This is Jones College, expectations are always high.’ But in the end no matter what, win or lose, we are going to have a good time.”
The Bobcats began their regular season play at Wallace State-Selma (Ala.) on August 25th and will host Mississippi Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. on August 27. If this season is anything like the last, Jackson will be the one to watch.
