Seven JSU Tigers Selected to HBCU Preseason All-America Team
The HBCU college football Preseason All-America team was announced on Tuesday, and seven Tigers with eight positions from defending HBCU National Champion Jackson State made the cut. Four offensive, three special teams and defensive selections were made.
JaCobian Morgan claimed the quarterback position after his 2024 season performance. Morgan totaled 2,051 passing yards with a 64.1 completion percentage 19 touchdowns, finishing 10-1 as a starter.
Morgan was joined on offense by wide receiver transfer Nate Rembert who was named a Second Team HBCU All-American in 2024. Playing for Mississippi Valley State, Rembert pulled in 70 receptions for 1,038 yards with four touchdowns. He is also one of only four receivers in MVSU history to notch 1,000 yards receiving in a season.
The other two Preseason All-Americans on offense included tight end Marvin Landy and D’Andre Townes-Blue. Landy totaled 17 receptions for 235 yards an three touchdowns last season, and the committee believes he will take a leap this season in the Tiger offense. Townes-Blue helped block for one of the best and most electric offenses in the country in 2024, and Jackson State ranked second in red zone offense (0.963) and sixth in scoring offense (36.4).
On defense, defensive lineman Jeremiah Williams was the lone selection for the Tigers. In 2024, he recorded 58 total tackles along with 22 solo stops, 7.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He tacked on at least one tackle in 13 out of 14 games last season.
On special teams, Travis Terrell Jr. was named as the punt and kick returner. He earned Third Team FCS Football Central All-American and honorable mention by the Associated Press in 2024. Terrell Jr. was also named the Freshman of the Year in the SWAC after he ranked third nationally in punt returns (16.7), fourth in combined kick returns (851) and fifth in kickoff returns (30.6).
Terrell Jr. was joined by kicker Gerardo Baeza on the special teams unit, who earned an Honorable Mention All-American selection by the Associated Press. Last season, Baeza set three single-season school records in field goals (22), extra points (58) and most consecutive extra points in a season (48).
