Statesmen to Kick Off 2025 Season in Late August

With college football just around the corner, the Gulf South Conference prepares for a 2025 campaign with only four teams – West Florida, West Alabama, Valdosta State and Delta State.

The Delta State Statesmen are coming off a 6-4 season where they went 3-3 in conference play. However, this year will feature only three GSC games which all come at the end of the regular season.

The Statesmen open up the 2025 season at home in Cleveland versus Central Missouri on August 28. Week two will be a home game against North Greenville (September 6), one of the teams who just departed from the Gulf South Conference to the Conference Carolinas.

After two home games to open up the year, Delta will hit the road for two games. First, they will travel to Pembroke, N.C. to face UNC Pembroke (September 13), followed up by a trip to Fort Valley, GA to take on Fort Valley State University (September 20). Afterwards, Delta State will host Erskine College, another new member of the Conference Carolinas on September 27 to close out the month.

The Statesmen will take on Barton College in Wilson, N.C. (October 4) before a bye week and then a Homecoming game against Ferrum College (October 18) to finish non-conference play. Two of the three Gulf South Conference games will be road games, first at West Alabama (October 25) before Senior Day against West Florida (November 1). Valdosta State will be the season finale in Georgia on November 8.

In 2024, the Statesmen went 1-2 against the three other teams who remain in the Gulf South Conference. Delta was voted last in the 2025 Gulf South Conference Coaches’ Preseason Poll, so they will look to prove everyone wrong with a strong 2025 season.
