T-Minus One Week Until Basketball: Here is What to Expect

WE KNOW BALL.

The countdown for basketball season has begun. With less than a week to tip-off, here is what can be expected from the two biggest basketball teams in Mississippi:

1. Mississippi State basketball takes the cake, in both men’s and women’s, as Mississippi’s recent basketball force. The men’s team has consistently been making it to the NCAA tournament while under their coach, Chris Jans. Similarly, Mississippi State has a new stand-out player, Josh Hubbard. The previous freshman has broken multiple records in his basketball career. In high school, he became Mississippi’s all-time leading scorer with 4,367 points, which broke the previous mark that stood for 37 years by Mississippi State’s Robert Woodard. He also broke Mississippi State’s freshman scoring mark previously held by Rickey Brow. Hubbard won the first of five SEC Freshman of the Week honors and was the first State freshmen to earn All-SEC Tournament Team status. The women’s team has not been shy with broking records either. This team was able to secure their first sold out game last season while playing LSU. The hype around women’s basketball and women’s sports in general has helped draw more attention to this deserving team. Jerkaila Jordan is a stand out player, and she has started all 97 games at Mississippi State. The first women’s game will be played on November 7th. You can expect a very good season from both teams at State.
2. Ole Miss men’s basketball hopes to get back in the game, with their season goal to be making a NCAA tournament appearance, which would be their first since 2019. Ole Miss recently signed the previous point guard from Virginia Tech. The top scorer, Sean Pedulla, could be a huge asset for this team. The women’s team has been statistically outperforming the men’s, as they reached the round of 32 last year in the NCAA tournament. After winning the round of 64 against Marquette, the Lady Rebels fell to Notre Dame. You can expect a very good season from both teams at Ole Miss.
