William Carey Begins Volleyball Season at Halo Classic

William Carey’s 2025 volleyball campaign kicked off with a 3-0 victory against Texas Wesleyan University on Friday at the first day of the Halo Classic in San Antonio, Texas.

The Lady Crusaders are coming off their best season in program history with a record 29 wins and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa. Prior to the first game, Head Coach Ronda Shirley spoke about the opportunities this season provides.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming season and the opportunity for continued success,” Shirley said. “We have a lot of new faces in all positions but the energy, discipline, and competitiveness at practice has been exciting. Ready to see them take the court in San Antonio this weekend.”

Carey returns junior Sofia Bettini, who finished second on the team in 2024 with 363 kills as well as 260 digs and 55 blocks.

“I’m super excited to play next to these girls,” Bettini said. “We have been showing great energy and communication not only on the court but off it as well. I think that our ability to pick each other up and our competitiveness are the most important characteristics, besides our individual talent of course.”

The Lady Crusaders are underway in the second match of a double-header against Oklahoma City University. They will take the court again another double-header on Saturday versus Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 8 a.m., followed by a match up against the Halo Classic host, Our Lady of the Lake University at 3 p.m.
