Alcorn State Lands Three to 2025 Preseason All-SWAC Football Team

The Southwestern Athletic Conference released the 2025 Preseason All-SWAC Football Team on Saturday, and three Alcorn State players have made the cut.

On the offensive line, graduate Ronald Brown was honored and will be expected to have another big season for the Braves. Brown started in 11 games during the 2024 season and helped guide the Braves’ offense to gain over 360 yards a contest while only giving up one sack in the entire season.

In the backfield, running back Jacorian Sewell from Natchez, MS had a very solid outing last season for Alcorn, rushing for 810 yards and converting five touchdowns. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry in 128 attempts, and was named to the All-SWAC Second Team in 2024. Sewell is considered one of the best backs in the conference and will look to have another breakout season for the Braves.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Stemarion Edwards led Alcorn with 91 total tackles in the 2024 season. Those included 13.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks and one interception. His physical presence and wide range make him one of the best defensive players in the SWAC heading into the 2025 season.

The Braves will open up their 2025 football campaign on the road against Northwestern State University on Thursday, August 28 at 7 p.m.
