Championship Status: Jones Soccer Wins it All, Again
The Jones College men’s soccer team secured another victory on Tuesday, shutting out East Mississippi 5–0 and securing their sixth MACCC championship in the past 8 seasons.
Though Jones and Pearl River officially finished as co-champions, the Bobcats earned the No. 1 seed in the Gulf South District playoffs through their head-to-head tiebreaker.
Matt Reed scored the first goal in the 14th minute, and after gathering some momentum, the Bobcats broke the match wide open after halftime with 4 goals in the final 28 minutes. Reed and Dylan Dykes each tallied a brace, while Lucas Ekfeldt added a 63rd-minute strike.
Jones outshot EMCC 33–4 with a 19–3 edge on target. EMCC goalkeeper Bentchey Garcia turned away 14 shots, while Jones’ Brax Rials stopped three first-half attempts. Both goalies were in excellent form.
You can follow the Bobcats as they advance to the Region 23 semifinals in Ridgeland on Wednesday, November 5, where they’ll face a to-be-determined opponent at either 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
