Coahoma Community College Basketball Teams Just Keep Winning
The Coahoma Tigers have never burned brighter.
Their men’s basketball team has exploded out of the gate with a 9–1 record, dominating the scoreboard and leaving opponents in the dust. Coahoma’s season opened with a 109–54 demolition of LSU Knights, a triple-digit blowout in which Coahoma scored more than double their opponent’s total. Outside of their lone loss, the Tigers have poured in 80 or more points every time they’ve hit the court.
On December 13th, Coahoma steamrolled Community Christian College with a score of 113–46. The 67-point margin marked the Tigers’ second 100-point performance of the season. Adding to the story, this roster was built largely in-state, with most of the players hailing from Mississippi. Only three players arrived from outside the state: two from Florida and one from Queens, New York.
When stacked against the rest of Mississippi’s HBCU men’s programs, the gap is glaring. Jackson State, Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State all sit at 1–9, Tougaloo is hovering at 5–6, and Rust College is 3–10. No one else is close to matching Coahoma’s pace.
Coahoma’s women’s team has been just as deadly, also boasting a 9–1 record. While the wins may not come with the same jaw-dropping point margins, the women’s basketball team is unrivaled. The Tigers have topped 65 points in eight games this season, highlighted by a 91-point quashing of Williams Baptist College. Their biggest statement so far came in an 81–54 victory over Phillips Community College, a 27-point separation.
Across Mississippi HBCU women’s basketball, Coahoma again sits alone at the top. Rust follows at 7–8, while Jackson State (2–7), Tougaloo (2–7), Alcorn State (3–5) and Mississippi Valley State (1–8) trail behind.
While we’re only ten games deep in this season, it’s clear that the Tigers are running Mississippi basketball.
