Former Jones Pitcher Taken In 16th Round of MLB Draft

Former Jones College pitcher Garrett Langrell was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the 476th overall pick in the 16th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

Langrell played baseball at Bay High School in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. In his senior season, he put up an impressive .449 batting average and recorded a 3.38 ERA with 69 strikeouts in just over 39 innings on the mound. He would sign with Jones College to begin his collegiate baseball career.

In his true freshman season, he was only able to play in nine out of 17 games in 2020 before the season was shut down to the breaking COVID-19 pandemic spreading throughout the country. In those nine outings, Langrell amassed a 1-1 record and three saves.

The 2021 season presented a better opportunity for Langrell and the Bobcats. With no hiatus in his redshirt freshman season, he notched a 2.8 ERA and a team best six saves in 19 appearances for the Bobcats, earning him Second Team All-MACCC honors. Langrell posted a 4-3 mark and struck out 43 in 35.2 innings on the mound.

Langrell would sign with Eastern Kentucky from 2022 to 2024 where he appeared in 29 games before transferring to Creighton University for his final season in 2025. The Bluejays posted a 43-16 record and became Big East Champions. Langrell broke out with a 7-2 record and captured 13 saves along with a 3.61 ERA, pitching 52.1 innings and throwing 57 strikeouts.

Langrell became the 11th former Bobcat to be picked in the MLB Draft and the first since Dalton Rogers was selected in the third round of the 2021 draft by the Boston Red Sox.
