Jackson State Wins SWAC Championship

Jackson State Tigers defeat Southern in SWAC Championship.

On Saturday, the Jackson State Tigers secured the SWAC title with a 41-13 victory over rival Southern. The win marks Jackson State’s third championship in the past four years (11-2), extending their current winning streak to nine games. It is also the first championship under head coach T.C. Taylor.

Both teams got off to a slow start and were tied 10-10 going into the second half. However, the Tigers quickly bounced back, scoring 31 unanswered points and nailing in the final score of 41-13.

After the statement score and win, head coach T.C. Taylor was filled with emotions and said he was proud to bring home a SWAC Championship to the city of Jackson. He said, “It was just a great job overall I’m so pleased right now as the head coach and leader of this team. I’m so excited for these coaches, you know, they’ve been working their butts off the last couple of weeks getting ready for this day. So, it’s a great place to be in and a great time to be a Tiger.”

The Tigers will now shift their focus to the Celebration Bowl, where they will take on South Carolina State on Dec. 14.
