This is shaping up to be a great season for Mississippi basketball. Both SEC teams from the state are dominating on the court and have earned spots in the latest AP Top 25 rankings. Mississippi State climbs to No. 25 following a big win over No. 18 Pitt last Friday, while Ole Miss holds steady at No. 19.
Mississippi State:
The 2024-25 Mississippi State men’s basketball team is shaping up to be an exciting squad this season. With both fresh and familiar faces, the team is gearing up for SEC play. Like last year, this team aims to compete at the highest levels of the SEC and NCAA basketball. Under head coach Chris Jans, who has brought much-needed energy and toughness to the program, the Bulldogs are looking to continue their upward trajectory. The team fell out of the Top 25 ranking last week but have grappled back into the No. 25 slot after a complete domination over No. 18 Pitt at home.
Ole Miss:
Similar to the Bulldogs, Ole Miss boasts an 8-1 record, with their only loss being against No. 12 Purdue. Ole Miss’s head coach, Chris Beard, was assigned the role back in 2023. With this only being the second year in his role, the No. 19 Rebels are proving to be in good hands. Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State men’s basketball have emerged as a competitive force in not only the SEC but the nation. Mississippi continues to bring life to athletics.
