Jackson’s PGA Tournament Sponsors Stepping Down: The Final Sanderson Farm Championship?
After a two-week break, the PGA Tour returns this week with the 2025 Sanderson Farms Championship, hosted at Jackson’s Country Club. The course is one of the longest in the PGA, and competition has historically been fierce.
However, the future of this iconic championship is in flux. This week heralds the final tournament in the Wayne-Sanderson Farms era, and tournament organizers are searching for a new main title sponsor. Championship Executive Director Steve Jent has expressed hopeful uncertainty amidst financial stress. Jent remarked, “We hope to be here… Wayne-Sanderson Farms is still going to be a partner from a charity standpoint. We’re just looking for that person to take on the lead role.”
Jent has good reason to try to resuscitate the Sanderson Farms Championship: each year, golfers bring the heat to Jackson every year. Each of the last six editions has been decided by either one stroke or a playoff, with the winner averaging nearly 20-under-par. Losing the Sanderson Farms Championship, a possibility without a main sponsor, would mean Jackson will lose out on some of the finest golf in the world.
Headlining this year’s field is world No. 34 Akshay Bhatia, joined by defending champion Kevin Yu, who won here last year at 23-under-par. Rasmus Højgaard returns after celebrating his twin brother Nicolai’s victory at Bethpage, while Ryder Cup vice captains Francesco Molinari and Brandt Snedeker are also set to appear on the green.
Will 2025 be the end of Jackson’s PGA era? Only time– and Jent– will tell. Hopefully fans and competitors alike will get clarity in time to prepare for 2026’s PGA tour.
