Jamaican Record Holder Graduates from Mississippi State University

Being one of the most impressive athletes in Mississippi, track and field star Navasky Anderson finishes his time at Mississippi State University.

Anderson has made history for not only Mississippi State Athletics, but the world. He is the first and only Jamaican man to run a sub- 1:45.00 for the 800m, his time coming in at 1:44.70. If you thought that was impressive- Anderson was breaking his own record. Before he ran a sub 1:45.00, he was up against his own record of 1:45.02. Before Anderson, the 800m record was 45 years old.

Wearing the Jamaica colors proudly, Anderson has competed in both the 2022 and 2023 World Championships, as well as the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He exceeded in these events, placing top 10 for all. He finished fifth in his 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, seventh in the semifinal of the 2022 World Championships, and second at the 2023 Pan American Games.

He has paved the path for himself in hopes of staying in the world of track and field by graduating with a major in science and kinesiology. Anderson hopes that he can put his degree to use after his racing through physical therapy or coaching.

Anderson graduated in December 2023, but there will be no time for him to rest following his graduation. With the Olympics coming up, Anderson is set to chase one of his biggest dreams- to not only make it to the Olympics, but to make it on the podium.
