Slept On: State’s Star Sophomore Jovanovic is Ranked 13th in the Country

Mississippi State sophomore Petar Jovanovic rose up in ITA’s tennis rankings after his successful fall season. By November of 2023, Jovanovic reached his career high rank as the 13th best player in the nation in singles.

As of March 6th, Jovanovic is ranked in the top 30 of all tennis players in division one men’s tennis. Coming in at #27 for singles, the 20 year old is not being shy in his first years of playing. Jovanovic fought to earn his higher rank by defeating multiple top 20 opponents in championship matches and finishing in first place at the ITA National Fall Championship in singles consolation. By consistently beating ranked opponents, Jovanovic has proved to all around him that although he is young, he is a force to be reckoned with. Looking into his sophomore season, his singles record is an outstanding 13-4, and he continues to prove he belongs at the top.

Not only does Jovanovic excel in singles matches, but he is ranked nationally for doubles. He and his partner Benito Sanchez-Martinez make up the 35th best double team in the country, as of March 6th.. The Mississippi State Tennis team as a whole is the 22nd best team in the newly released ITA rankings, with the help of their top ranked player, Petar Jovanovic.
