Longtime Pearl River Head Baseball Coach Promoted to Director of Athletics
Pearl River Community College announced the promotion of head baseball coach Michael Avalon to the Director of Athletics position.
Avalon, who arrived at Pearl River in June 2016 as head coach of the Wildcats, led the baseball team for the past nine seasons and built a powerhouse along the way. Since Avalon arrived, the Wildcats have claimed five MACCC Championships, three Region 23 Championships, three NJCAA World Series appearances, one National Runner-up and one National Championship title.
Before Pearl River, Avalon was the head coach at Mississippi Delta for five seasons in which he took the Trojans to the MACCC playoffs in four out of those five seasons.
Avalon took the job as Assistant Athletic Director in 2022 on top of being baseball’s head coach, which is remarkable in itself. The promotion to Director of Athletics will allow Avalon to continue guiding an elite baseball program all while overseeing the PRCC Athletic Department. President of Pearl River Community College Dr. Adam Breerwood spoke on the hire.
“Coach Avalon’s promotion to Director of Athletics at Pearl River Community College marks a pivotal moment for our athletics programs,” Breerwood said. “His proven track record of developing a championship-caliber baseball team reflects not only his expertise but also his commitment to fostering a culture of excellence. We expect our players to embody the same dedication, discipline and sportsmanship both on and off the field.”
Avalon voiced his gratitude for being given the opportunity to oversee the Athletic Department.
“I am incredibly humbled and excited to accept the position of Director of Athletics at Pearl River Community College,” Avalon said. “This is truly a special opportunity, and I am honored to serve this proud and successful athletic department.”
Over his time as Assistant Athletic Director, Avalon has assisted in many different projects surrounding the baseball facility and will continue to improve the facility as a whole.
