Meet Edwin Summerour: Alcorn State’s Key Defensive Player

As the college football season progresses, Alcorn State has been having a stellar season. Currently ranked No. 1 in SWAC standings, the team is full of notable talent.

Most people love to focus on offense, but one defensive player is making waves on the field. Meet Edwin Summerour, a redshirt senior defensive back who has emerged as a standout performer for his team. With already 14 solo tackles and a total of 21 tackles this season so far, he is proving to be a vital asset to his defense. This impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, as he recently earned the prestigious HBCU+ FCS National Award.

Summerour’s is originally from Atlanta, Georgia and attended Clarke Central HS in Athens, Georgia. The Georgia native was a sought after high school player, and he initially committed to Murray State. He transferred to Alcorn State in 2022 and starting making huge plays in his 2023 season. In 2023 the DB had a total of 63 tackles, 46 of which were solo.

Throughout this season and his last, his ability to read plays and anticipate opponents’ moves has resulted in key stops and Alcorn victories. Beyond his individual statistics, Alcorn State has been holding opponents down with an undefeated conference record. The Braves play this Saturday against Grambling State.
