Not So Rusty- Two Players Make All-Tournament Team
Rust College baseball program is home for two outstanding players, Xavier Campbell and Kyrent Cole, who have recently been selected as players for the GCAC All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Xavier Campbell was selected to the team twice, as a pitcher and an on field position player. Campbell has appeared in 37 games for the Bearcats, 17 of which were conference. Accumulating 20 runs, 29 hits, eight doubles, and two home runs out of his 89 plate appearances, it is no shock that Campbell has caught the attention of others. Killing it on the bases and as a pitcher, the hot shot has also thrown 24 strikeouts throughout his sophomore season and has allowed only three home runs. Against the No. 4 SUNO Knights, Campbell provided a thrill of a game as both a master pitcher and hitter. Campbell surrendered only one earned run and nine baserunners. While pitching, he average of .182 against him, completely shutting down the opponent team. When it was time for him to hit, he went 3-4, earning the outstanding statistic of .750 and a team high of four RBIs.
Freshman teammate Kyrent Cole also made quite the appearance. It was Cole’s first time on the GCAC All-Tournament team as a freshman, but also his first collegiate year of baseball. During the season, Cole leads the Bearcats in a batting average of .643 and earned an on-base percentage of .706. Nine is Cole’s new lucky number, as he was able to accrue nine hits and nine runs, with additional statistics of four stolen bases and three walks. During the freshman’s first season, he appeared in 43 games overall and accumulated 35 runs, making him someone to look out for in his upcoming sophomore season.
