Ole Miss Beats State After 3,626 Day Drought
After roughly 9 years without a series win, Ole Miss Rebel baseball has a victory against rival No. 22 Mississippi State.
There were a lot of things that made this game important for Ole Miss outside of winning a rivalry matchup at home. Mississippi State was a top 25 team (ranked No. 22), and this win over them kicked Mississippi State out of the top 25. This was also the first series that Ole Miss has won against the Bulldogs in roughly 9 years. And quite the win it was- it was the Rebels largest win over the Bulldogs since 1960, the most runs they had put up against their maroon and white rivals since 2010, and their first series win since 2015. The game ended with the seven inning rule as Ole Miss was leading 11-2. Mississippi state shut out the Rebels in the first game with an 8-0 victory. However, that was quickly and loudly answered with the following two wins. The second game was close with a 10-9 victory, but they were able to blow out the Bulldogs in the third match with the 14-2 victory.
With these past two victories, the team hopes to maintain their winning streak against top 25 teams in their upcoming game against No. 23 Georgia this Friday.
