Ole Miss is a Triple Threat: Three National Titles Won
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships is one of the most thrilling and anticipated showcases of collegiate athleticism. The event features a variety of events like sprints, distance races, jumps, throws, and relays. Here, athletes from across the country compete for individual and team victories. In a competitive and electric atmosphere like this, setting personal and school record-breaking performances is not uncommon. Ole Miss runners have done just that, three times!
Four Rebels brought home the first NCAA Outdoor relay title in school history. The talented team of Akilah Lewis, McKenzie Long, Gabrielle Matthews, and Jahniya Bowers were able to cross the finish line with a time of 42.34. This impressive time was not only the best in the NCAA competition, but the ninth best in NCAA history. McKenzie Long competed again in the national spotlight just 50 minutes later, where she secured her first individual NCAA title in the 100-meter dash. With exhilarating back-to-back victories, Long prepared herself for her last event only 40 minutes later. Her grand finale was the 200-meter dash, an event Long was more than prepared for. Keeping her lucky streak going, Long exploded in this event and won her third NCAA title.
Long was an absolute beast in her recent NCAA appearance. In the blink of an eye, she was able to secure three national titles and had lighting in her muscles. The finish line was calling, and she charged towards it with a deafening answer
Congratulations to the Rebel team and McKenzie Long for their national victories.
