Player Spotlight: Grace Ambrose
Grace Ambrose is already turning heads. She joined Alcorn State University’s soccer team as a forward after moving to the United States from Aba, Nigeria. In the short time Ambrose has been a part of Alcorn’s team, she’s racked up some pretty incredible accomplishments.
Despite only being three games into the 2025 season, Ambrose has already scored two goals, had one assist, and taken a total of twelve shots. Against McNeese State, Ambrose opened the game with fiery momentum, scoring in the sixth minute off an assist from Annick Zouma and putting Alcorn ahead 1-0. While the game ultimately ended in a 3-3 draw, Ambrose brought palpable energy to the match.
In a similarly tense game with Nicholls State, Ambrose once again provided critical plays. It took 63 minutes for the Alcorn Braves to score; forward Deryn Doamekpor scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Grace Ambrose to level the match at 1-1. After this initial goal, Alcorn went on to win 3-1 against Nicholls State.
Whether in a supporting role or scoring goals, Ambrose has already made it clear that she’s ready to leave it all on the field. Alcorn isn’t the only team to have scouted Ambrose— Chattanooga Football Club signed her this spring. Chattanooga FC’s head coach, Maryn Beutler, called Ambrose “an extremely dynamic, versatile, and lethal forward in the final third,” and Chattanooga FC’s sporting director, Sebastian Giraldo, similarly noted that “[Grace] is an exceptional youth talent that is going to get the crowd on their feet. She is a top professional prospect at a young age.”
Alcorn and Chattanooga FC fans will certainly have their eyes on Ambrose this season. Already performing at a high level this early in the season, Ambrose has set her sights high. If she can keep bringing the same energy, Ambrose just might be unstoppable this season.
