The No. 1 Golfer in the World is in Mississippi
Mississippi State’s very own, Julia Lopez Ramirez, has earned the top amateur ranking in the world by the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
This feat is well deserved, and frankly slightly overdue. The talented and decorated player has consistently been ranked among the top three golfers, but was still not ranked No.1 despite her victory over the previous No. 1 golfer from LSU.
Lopez Ramirez’s ascent to the No. 1 ranking follows another exceptional season in maroon and white. She put on an amazing performance at the recent SEC Championship, which resulted in her second consecutive individual SEC title, her first being the year before. The upcoming senior garnered First Team All-America in 2024 and six career All-America honors. In all three years of playing, Lopez Ramirez’s talent played a pivotal role in MSU’s ticket to the NCAA Championship appearance. Now with Lopez Ramirez golfing, the State team has made three consecutive appearances in the tournament. This marked the first time in program history that MSU reached the NCAA Championships in three consecutive seasons. This was record breaking for State, but also notable as its a feat achieved by only 14 other teams nationwide. During the NCAA Championship competition, she finished eighth with her second-best career performance in the championship event. This eighth-place finish marked her 23rd career top-10 placement and her highest finish in the NCAA Championships. She joined Ally McDonald as the only other Bulldog to achieve a top-10 finish in program history at this national event.
Now recognized as the best collegiate golfer in the nation, Lopez Ramirez continues to grow and shed light onto Mississippi State athletics.
