Who Runs the ‘Sip?: Ole Miss vs. No. 3 State Rivalry Matchup Tomorrow

Any Mississippian knows the Ole Miss and Mississippi State rivalry is one of the most intense and storied rivalries in college sports. The two teams will face off in a competitive and anticipated soccer match this Friday in Oxford. On top of the rivalry, this game is highly anticipated because Mississippi State has been having its most impressive season ever- and this is no exaggeration.

Mississippi State soccer is currently ranked No. 3 nationally, a ranking they have never seen before. The Bulldogs have continued to break records in national rankings, crowd sizes, player rankings, ranked wins, and more. The Mississippi State Bulldogs sit comfortably at No. 3, behind Duke and Wake Forest. The only SEC team to join State in the top 10 is Arkansas, who Mississippi State defeated when they (Arkansas) were ranked No. 1. The Bulldogs have dominated in overall and SEC play. Currently, their record is 12-1 overall and 6-0- in SEC play. However, with the pressure of a rivalry, will they fold?

Ole Miss is set to host this matchup, which is played in hopes to win the Magnolia Cup. Under Mississippi State’s head coach James Armstrong, the Bulldogs have claimed four consecutive Magnolia Cup victories. With the intensity of the rivalry and the home advantage Ole Miss has a fighting chance. This is a game you do not want to miss!

The soccer match is Friday, October 18th at 7 p.m. in Oxford. To keep up with the scoring, follow either of the school’s ‘schedule’ page, where live statistics are posted. OR, if you are able, show out! These girls would love the support.
