Women’s Basketball Coach To Be Inducted into PRCC Hall of Fame

Longtime head coach Polly Kirkland LeVert came in and put Pearl River Women’s Basketball on the map. As a result of her success in Poplarville, she will be inducted into the Pearl River Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2025 on July 25.

After arriving in Pearl, LeVert saw immediate success. She was able to build around an All-American named Antrice McGill who was already a Wildcat. Despite less than five players returning from the prior season, Coach LeVert was still able to lead Pearl River to a 20-9 record and advance to the region tournament.

PRCC made a bunch of noise throughout LeVert’s tenure with the Wildcats. By the time her career in Poplarville was complete, she had accumulated 199 total wins, coached eight All-Americans, won two championships and recorded four 20-win seasons. The 199 victories are the most by a coach in program history, and she is one of two coaches to accumulate four 20-win seasons.

In addition to basketball success, LeVert also looks back on the relationships she was able to build with the players she recruited.

“They might not have had all straight A’s and a 25 ACT score, but they were quality people and wanted to win. They came there, built for success, and always bought in,” LeVert noted.

LeVert will be enshrined into the Pearl River Community College Athletics Hall of Fame July 25 at the Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis.

“I remember saying, ‘I didn’t think it would ever happen,'” LeVert said. “And of course, it brought tears, because it’s something that I had hoped for, and I am proud of, it is an honor.”
