Belhaven’s Brett is Baseball Pitcher of the Year- Again!
Belhaven Blazers very own Brett Sanchez is named pitcher of the year by the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) for the second year in a row.
The 6”4’, 195 pound pitcher has earned the conferences pitcher of the year after an outstanding season. Originally from Louisiana, Sanchez is stellar on the mound. This season, he went 6–2 across 10 starts and led the league in ERA with 2.58 across 80.1 innings. Sanchez pitches quickly and consistently, earning him a CCS high of 89 strikeouts this year. There were four out of 10 games were Sanchez pitched the entire games, one of which included a shutout and WHIP of an insanely impressive .93. Sanchez is famously known for being Belhaven’s all-time strikeout leader, a title he earned in 2023. This is also when he became the first pitcher in Division III to cross the 400 career strikeout threshold since 1995. Not only did he accomplish a record not touched in almost 30 years, but he is one of three to ever achieve it.
With statistics like these, it is no surprise that Brett Sanchez has earned pitcher of the year. The right handed pitcher is a Belhaven Blazer baseball treasure, and a good pitcher makes for a good team. The Blazers were able to go 12–5 overall in conference play and play again May 9 against Huntington for the CCS baseball championship.
