Coahoma is Mississippi’s Only Undefeated HBCU in Men’s & Women’s Basketball

Coahoma Community College has opened up their basketball season with a bang. The Tigers are putting down their foot and demanding attention, as they are the only undefeated HBCU in Mississippi for both men’s and women’s basketball. The men’s team boasts a 4-0 record, while the women’s team has started strong at 3-0. No other HBCU basketball teams, men’s or women’s, have begun their seasons without a loss, making Coahoma the standout program this season.

Men’s Basketball:

The men’s basketball team has opened up their season with an extremely impressive 4–0 record. The Tigers continue their unbroken streak after a recent victory over Phillips Community College, where they won 74–58. All four of their victories have been 70+ point games, demonstrating an aggressive offense. They opened their season with a victory against Southeast Missouri, winning this matchup 87–68. They put on their arguably most impressive show of the season thus far in their second game. Here, they won against LeMoyne-Owen College 105–55. In their third game, they faced off against Volunteer State Community College in a closely contested match, ultimately securing a victory by five points with a score of 77–72. Their upcoming game will be on November 14 against Northwest Mississippi Community College at 7:30 PM. Northwest plays in the MACCC conference and currently sits on a 1-2 overall record. Despite the record, Northwest will be a team Coahoma should prepare for. One of Northwest losses was against a No.16 team. Here, Northwest only lost by one point, 107–108.

Women’s Basketball:

Coahoma’s women’s team has been holding their own. They are the only Mississippi HBCU women’s team to stand undefeated so far. The Lady Tigers stay unbeaten with a record of 3-0. They won their first matchup against Champion Christian College, where the final outcome was 85–48. Their second victory was two days following their first, where they defeated Volunteer State Community College with a humbling score of 89–35. Their last matchup was extremely impressive, where they won 93–23 over Phillips Community College. It is clear with their scores that they are dominating in both offense and defense. In all of their games, the Lady Tigers have been able to put up 80+ points. Defense shows domination as well, with two of their games holding their opponents to 35 or less points. Number 31, Cy’Nara Robinson, is a player to look out for, as she currently averages almost 19 points a game. Similarly to mens, their upcoming game will be on November 14 against Northwest Mississippi Community College at 5:30 PM
