Delta State Linebacker Mentioned On Preseason Elite 100 Watch List

The D2football.com Preseason Elite 100 Watch List was announced on Sunday evening, and fourth-year Linebacker William Carter was mentioned on the defensive squad.

In 2024, Carter appeared in 10 games for the Statesmen where he garnered 48 tackles, including 22 solo, as well as four tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. His valiant effort last season earned him a second team All-Gulf South Conference selection.

After going 6-4 overall and 3-3 in Gulf South Conference play in 2024, Carter will lead a Delta State defense that gave up 24.4 points per contest, which landed them at fifth in the conference. The Statesmen also snatched seven interceptions as well as seven fumbles. Carter’s veteran leadership will give the team ample opportunity to propel its defensive ability in 2025.

Carter enters his senior season with 131 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and two interceptions at Linebacker in the green and white. Delta State opens its season in just over two weeks when they host the University of Central Missouri Mules on August 28 at 6 p.m. in Cleveland.
