Mississippi State Tennis Stays Ranked No. 1
Mississippi State’s tandem team of Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez sit still on their No. 1 ranking and claim All-American Status.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez currently hold the No. 1 ranking as the top doubles tandem in the nation. Their current ranking is proving its worth, as the duo is delivering impressive performances at the NCAA Individual Championships. The duo has reached the quarterfinals by securing straight-set victory over fourth-ranked Filippos Astreinidis and Paul Inchauspe of Princeton 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16 on Thursday afternoon. This particular feat is notable because it marks the highest-ranked win the duo has achieved in their careers. Next, Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez return to play against Lui Maxted and Pedro Vives of TCU in the quarterfinals of the Championship, time TBD.
The Bulldog juniors are now sitting at 11-2 this fall season. With tennis’s competitive season starting in spring, their impressive fall performances gives State fans something to look forward to. This duo aside, Bulldog fans can always count on MSU’s men’s tennis team to put on a winning show. The Bulldogs have now earned 51 All-American honors in program history. Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez have become the 13th and 14th Bulldogs to be tabbed All-Americans multiple times. To read more about the Bulldog’s tennis program, click below:
