
Tigers Race to Top 10 at Mississippi State Relay
The Jackson State Tigers ran laps around their opponents during Mississippi State’s annual Al Schmidt Relays. With multiple top 5 finishes, as well as top 10 finishes, Jackson State did not come to play.
This past weekend, the Tigers finished up their time competing and the results are in. Starting with the men’s team, JSU’s Davieon Center, Ledamian Rowell, Tevin Thompson, Ivan Donaldson Jr, Caleb Crutcher, Domonic Turner embraced top-10 victories. Davieon Center snagged a fourth place triumph in his field event of shot put, throwing a whopping 16.45 meters. Another top-5 victory was secured by Ledamian Rowell, who finished fifth in long jump (7.35 meters). Teammate Tevin Thompson was able to secure a top-10 victory in this same event, jumping 7.14 meters to close tenth place. Ivan Donaldson Jr succeeded in multiple events, coming in fourth for the 400m hurdles (52.65) and tenth for the 110m hurdles (14.37). JSU dominated the 800m event, with both Caleb Crutcher and Dominic Turner placing top 10 (Crutcher, 7; Turner, 9).
JSU did not stop there. Two more players not only embraced top-10 victories, but set collegiate records. The Tigers very own Jace Coleman recorded multiple top-10 victories this past weekend, one of which was playing sixth in the 200m with a time of 20.91. This became the fourth-fastest collegiate time. He also finished eighth in the 100m with a time of 10.52. Similarly, Jyquan Jackson came in eighth for the 200m with a time of 20.99 (sixth-fastest collegiate).
The Lady Tigers held their own as well, with Kymoi Noray, Lillian Dudley, Callie Calicut, Jiya Clayton, and Kaylin Jackson recording top 10 wins. Kymoi Noray was able to claim seventh place in her field event of javelin, throwing It a monstrous 39.97 meters. Lillian Dudley also threw herself to a victory in shot put, placing fourth (third best collegiate) with a throw of 13.74 meters. Callie Calicut claimed multiple triumphs and ran to eighth and tenth place in her events. She claimed eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.10 and 10th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14:45. Alongside Calicut in the 400m hurdles, Jiya Clayton claimed third place overall in this event, running a 1:00.50. Kaylin Jackson was able to run to her victory as well, placing seventh in the 800m, with a time of 2:21.07.
JSU blew the crowd away this past weekend, keeping their competition on their toes. They will compete again starting tomorrow, March 27th in Austin, Texas for the Texas relays.
