Tyler, The Creator Reacts to Jackson State’s performance of ‘Sticky’

Two-time grammy winner Tyler, The Creator recently complimented Jackson State University’s band for their performance of his new song “Sticky”. This past Saturday, Jackson State’s marching band, Sonic Boom of the South, has gone viral for their performance and Tyler’s reaction to it. You can see his reaction and the bands performance by clicking below.

Tyler calls Sonic Boom of the South’s performance “beautiful” and says his “heart is filled.” He composed the beat of the song to mirror band culture, which is evident when he states, “This is why I made Sticky! This is why I arranged it that way!”. The song’s instrumental elements feature bass and brass instruments that emulate the sound of a live band, complemented by layers of traditional instruments. With this and the songs overall upbeat characteristics and energy, Tyler created a song perfect for band performances.

Sonic Boom of the South is one of the most renowned collegiate marching bands in the United States. HBCU band culture runs deep, and this band established itself in 1940. The band celebrates high-energy performances, choreography, and musical style, which you can see in their “Sticky” performance. Give their performance a watch, it is worth your time.
