Weekend Highlights: Best of Mississippi Sports This Weekend
Another action-packed weekend in Mississippi has passed and it is time to dive into all the thrilling moments.
Mississippi State Soccer:
Mississippi State women’s soccer team defeats their No. 1 opponent, Arkansas in front of a record crowd (2,617). This is the first time in program’s history that Mississippi State soccer defeated a No. 1 team. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 7 (also highest in program history) and this win will have them climb higher in rankings.
Ole Miss (Almost) Shut Out:
Ole Miss football defeats South Carolina 27-3 in football this past Saturday. The Rebels are currently ranked No.12.
Northwest Sweep:
Northwest volleyball sophomore Layla Dryer had 31 digs in Saturday’s 3-1 and 3-0 sweep against Henderson State JV, the Lafayette, La. Dyer’s career total now sits at 602 and counting, as she also owns 263 digs for the season.
Delta State Football Again:
The No. 20 Delta State defeated the Hawks of Chowan 54-9 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium to open Gulf South Conference play.
William Carey Sweeps Middle Georgia State:
The William Carey Volleyball team returned to the court and swept Middle Georgia State in SSAC play this past weekend.
