William Carey Soccer Wins 17-0 for the SECOND Week in a Row
I have played soccer my entire life, and I have never been so impressed in my life. William Carey women’s soccer team is putting up insane statistics and we need to talk about it.
This past weekend, William Carey went up against Brewton-Parker University. By the end of the 90-minute matchup, the scoreboard lit up 17-0 in favor of William Carey. The craziest part, this was not the first time the team had ended a game 17-0. Exactly one week prior, the Lady Crusaders downed Blue Mountain University 17-0 as well.
A normal soccer score is usually 2-1, 1-0, maybe even 3-2. The sport is typically low scoring, which is what turns a lot of people away from it. It is a dance of possession and strategy, but it can be perceived as boring due to its low scoring nature. As an avid soccer watcher and enjoyer, even a 3-2 match tends to lean towards a more exhilarating game than a typical one. That is what makes this so insane. 17-0 in a soccer match, especially at the college level, is something I have never heard of- and its happened twice! With only 90 minutes in a soccer game, that means William Carey averaged a goal every five minutes for the duration of the game.
William Carey’s women’s soccer team has a standing record of 8-1-1. They had one loss in the middle part of their season against Keiser University (1-2). Two days after their loss, they fired up their engines and won 9-0 against their next opponent and have not lost since.
Team leader and star #21 Christina Salmon has scored a total of 18 goals this season. The teammate ranked behind her has scored 9 goals this season, notably half the number that Salmon has. William Carey has put a total of 65 goals into the back of the net this season, and Salmon has accounted for roughly 28 percent of all of them. The star is a senior and a key player for the team.
